TCG sorting solutions: which workflow fits?

A factual overview of different approaches, from digital capture to physical sorting with Inventory.

Start with the task

A system should fit the card workflow.

The term "TCG Card Sorter" covers different kinds of solutions. Some primarily support digital capture, others physically separate cards, and others are designed for recurring inventory workflows.

Speed is not the only consideration when choosing a system. It also matters how cards are recognized, separated, reviewed, and then connected to Inventory and real storage locations.

Types of solutions

Different ways from a stack of cards to Inventory

Scanners for digital lists

These systems capture cards and help document inventory digitally. Depending on the system, physical sorting is handled separately or remains manual.

Card sorters for collections

These systems feed cards into a sorting workflow and distribute them across physical destinations according to defined rules.

Systems for larger inventories

For recurring inventory processes, solutions are available with different workflows, output positions, and software integrations.

Put throughput in context

One number does not tell you what is being recognized.

Manufacturer figures for cards per minute are only comparable in the context of the recognition task involved. Assigning a card by a distinctive name or artwork is different from reliably identifying its specific printing.

With Magic: The Gathering in particular, the set symbol, set or collector number, reprints, language versions, and special variants can all matter. Distinguishing these details is more demanding than general card identification and may require an additional review process.

When comparing systems, it is therefore worth asking: what information is actually recognized at the stated speed, and how are unclear cases handled?

The TCG System approach

Careful recognition before fast Inventory transfer.

TCG System is designed for the physical sorting of TCG cards and controlled transfer to Inventory. The goal is not to write recognition results into Inventory as quickly as possible without review, but to handle cards and results in a traceable workflow.

Uncertain or unmatched cases remain separate in the Eject/Review bin. Only in Review & Transfer do you check the results and decide which cards are transferred to Inventory or assigned to a storage location. Speed is not the main promise; a reliable workflow is.

How Review & Transfer works in Inventory

What to check when choosing

Ask the right questions

  • Do you only need a digital card list, or should cards also be physically separated?
  • How are uncertain recognition results handled before they enter Inventory?
  • How well do sorting profiles, destination bins, and storage locations fit your workflow?
  • Which card games, languages, card types, and sleeves does a system explicitly state that it supports?

These questions help you choose a workflow that fits your collection or inventory.

Connect physical sorting with local Inventory

TCG System is intended for users who want to combine DIY construction, physical sorting, and local Inventory.
